Annual Roseville Fundraiser Hopes To Raise Thousands For K9 Officers
ROSEVILLE (CBS13) – Bodie, the Sacramento K9 shot in the line of duty, is an example of just how dangerous working in law enforcement is.
For the fourth year, the Cover Your K9 Fundraiser is helping to safely equip dogs who patrol the streets.
Surprising as it might be, departments typically don’t provide a protective vest for a dog.
That’s exactly why Cover Your K9 has been a valuable fundraiser for many Northern California law enforcement agencies.
Pet Food Express in Roseville held its 4th annual event on Saturday to raise money for K9 safety equipment. Dogs were washed, and donations were made.
“So far in the past three years we’ve done over $200,000,” said Lindsay Jeansonne, Pet Food Express. “Forty-tree of our stores are doing this program right now.”
Funds raised are used to purchase much needed bullet proof vests, medical kits and vehicle heat sensors.
Deputy Shawn Rosner with the Placer County Sheriff’s Office and his partner Jet know firsthand the importance of these items.
“Dogs are really a valuable tool,” said Rosner. “Certainly no department anywhere in the U.S. are immune to budget cuts.”
Those cuts take away from an estimated $10,000 in safety equipment for patrol dogs.
After Bodie was shot a few months back, there has been an increased concern for dog safety among the public.
“Randy said Bodie saved his life that day,” said Rosner.
Pet Food Express is hoping to raise $100,000 over the weekend.
