Despite Dissent, SF Supervisors Okay Pet Food Express
San Francisco Supervisors have sided with a chain food pet store that is seeking to open up its third store in San Francisco.
Pet Food Express is opening locations all over the Bay Area and wants to add a third San Francisco location on California Street.
The planning commission said okay, but an appeal was filed with the supervisors by owners of small boutique pet stores who fear the impact on their business.
"When Pet Food Express opened on Market Street I saw a five percent decrease in my business,” one woman told the supervisors. “If Pet Food Express opens on California Street I will see another decline.”
But Pet Food Express, which started in San Francisco, got support from animal rights activists who credit the store for its animal rescue programs and other good neighbor policies.
”I support Pet Food Express,” said another woman. “The better Pet Food Express does the more help we are able to do to get homes for our homeless animals, and the more supplies we get donated.”
The appeal to block the store was denied by the supervisors, and Pet Food Express can now move forward.
