Dog wash raises money for police K9 program

October 12, 2011

Contra Costa Times

Wash a dog and help the police at any Pet Food Express store Oct. 15 and 16.

Either donate directly or pay $15 for tokens to use the store's dog washing stations to raise money for "Cover your K9," a group that provides safety equipment for police dogs.

There's no limit on the number of tokens a person can purchase that day, and all of the money goes toward the fundraiser.

"This is one of our favorite fundraisers of the year, because it's an opportunity for our company along with our customers to directly help the brave men and women (and K9s) who protect our communities everyday," said Pet Food Express Co-owner Michael Levy in a news release.

Last year, Pet Food Express and its customers raised $85,000 to buy bulletproof vests, trauma kits and heat sensors for police dogs in Northern California. The pet store has raised more than $165,000 for Cover Your K9 over the past three years.

Police canine officers and their loyal police dogs will visit Pet Food Express stores throughout Northern California on Oct 15 and 16 from 11 1 p.m. to share stories about the important jobs that the canine partners help accomplish.
