CLAYTON -- A fundraiser to buy police dogs bulletproof vests and other equipment is today and Sunday.

Bay Area Pet Food Express stores are donating the entire fee for self-service dog washes this weekend to Cover Your K9, a nonprofit group that raises money to buy vests, emergency medical kits, heat sensors for patrol cars and other equipment for police dogs. Last year, the group raised $80,000 during the "dog wash" event. Cover Your K9 has provided protective gear to police dogs in many communities, including Concord, Antioch, Oakland and Pleasant Hill.

Police officers and their K9 partners are scheduled to give demonstrations at 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m. today at the Clayton Pet Food Express, 5400 Ygnacio Valley Road.
