Police dogs demonstrate their skills at Pet Food Express fundraiser
Shelley Frost, SF Dogs Examiner
Pet Food Express held a police dog demonstration today at several of their San Francisco Bay Area stores. The public was invited to watch the dogs perform their tracking and tackling abilities. Pet Food Express hoped to raise $100,000 to supply local canine officers with bulletproof vests and other needed equipment.
Officer Chris Devon of the South San Francisco police department said that the dogs are more than just crime-fighting partners, "They are members of our family. We care a lot about the dogs, and the bonds between us are strong."
Asked what the dogs do on a daily basis, Officer Devon says, "They mostly do building or car searches for narcotics." How do the dogs know when they've done a good job?
Officer Devon says, "We use praise and toys as a reward."
