Why We Don't Sell Live Animals as Pets Pet Food Express strongly believes non-specialty retail stores should not sell animals as pets. Stores that are not designed and dedicated to particular species are generally not able to care for and treat them the way they need to be treated. Each species has unique requirements in order to live a happy, healthy life. These needs can not be met by a pet store without dedicating the right resources and hiring qualified caretakers. Just recently, the San Francisco City Attorney sued a national chain for mistreating animals, including rabbits, hamsters and birds. This mistreatment occurs regularly in retail environments.
At Pet Food Express, we are committed to promoting animal adoptions. We encourage people who want to find a new pet for their family to use the community resources of animal shelters and the rescue groups that work closely with them. PFE gives generously to and supports in many ways rescue organizations all around the Bay Area. We also sponsor, along with The East Bay SPCA, the adoption web site, Virtual Pet Adoptions.
We feel we are doing the best thing for our community by encouraging people to give a stable, loving home to a homeless or abandoned pet in need; a pet that has been spayed or neutered. We hope you’ll join us in supporting your local rescue group and/or animal shelter and, when you feel the time is right to bring a new puppy or kitten into your home, please make looking at www.virtualpetadoptions.com your first step in finding a new best friend.
If, instead, purchasing a pure-bred pet is the best decision for you , we suggest that you purchase your pet from a reputable breeder.
