PET TOY RECALLS: LEAD ALERT
Out of concern for pet and human safety, Pet Food Express wishes there was more pet product regulation. Until things change, taking responsibility as local business owners is what we feel is the next best thing.
As part of Pet Food Express’ Safety Assurance Program, we are now testing all of our pet toys for lead before they reach our shelves. Since no lead standards exist for pet toys, we have elected to apply the current child safety standards set by the Consumer Products Safety Commission.
Pet Food Express discovered that several toys it carried contained unacceptably high levels of lead. Although we have neither received nor heard any reports of injury associated with any of the toys we’ve sold and these recalls are not being ordered by the government or product manufacturers, our own discomfort with allowing even a small risk caused us to notify the manufacturers and recall the following products:
