Pet Food Express is one of the country's leading independent pet food and supply retailers. With 35, stores, all located in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area, Pet Food Express is the eighth largest pet specialty retailer in the USA. Our corporate offices, Pet Food University, and distribution center are all housed in a 105,000 sq. ft. facility located in San Leandro, California.

We love pets! It is the glue that unites our company. Employees and customers are welcome to bring their well-behaved pets to our stores. As part of our commitment to animal welfare, we have helped find homes for over 52,000 homeless animals through Virtual Pet Adoptions and we work closely with and materially support numerous local SPCAs and pet rescue organizations. Additionally, we sponsor adoptions, low cost vaccination clinics, and dog training classes at most of our stores. Our state-of-the-art Self-Service Pet Washes provide a unique and useful service for our customers. We truly try to be a welcome asset to each of the local communities that we serve!
Customers are #1 "Welcome to Pet Food Express! How are you today?" For years, we've greeted thousands of people with this simple phrase in our Northern California retail stores. Our customers quickly realize that we offer pet lovers a whole new way to shop for their special friends.
President Michael Levy built the company on a solid foundation of customer service: "In our stores, we strive to never run out of any item. Every once in a while a customer will come in for a bag of dog food that isn't in the store. I'll get it from our warehouse, throw it in the back of my truck and run it right down there. When employees see that I'm willing to do whatever it takes for a customer, it trickles down to them. Pet Food Express has enjoyed tremendous growth since the company began in 1986. In addition to a complete line of pet products, most stores feature self-service pet washes, low-cost vaccination clinics, and mobile pet adoption services with local shelters and rescue groups (we do not sell animals in our stores). Our customers are always our number one priority!
Our History: The Best of Both Worlds With hundreds of employees working in our Northern California stores, you might think Michael carefully orchestrated his success. Instead, "it was a classic example of the tail wagging the dog," says Michael. "I was working in the professional dog training business in the early 1980's, and opened a small pet supply store to ensure that my clients had easy access to both the proper food and essential products they needed. Everything grew from there."
While Michael's in-depth pet industry knowledge built a strong foundation for the company, partner Mark Witriol brought his business savvy to bear in 1992 and has quickly grown the private firm from 4 to 35 stores--with more on the way. "We've been in this business for more than a decade," says Mark. "We've been serving the needs of pet lovers for a long time, and will continue to do so for years to come. We're excited to bring our expert pet knowledge to our clients!"
Our Low Price Guarantee
Here's how it works Pet Food Express will beat our competitors’ price on any product that we sell. If a competitor’s price is:
$10.00 or less - We will beat the competitor’s price by 10% of the price.
Over $10.00 - We will beat the competitor’s price by $1.00.
For example, if someone is selling an item for $20.00 and we are selling it for more, then our price would be $19.00. If someone was selling an item for $4.00 and we were selling it for $5.00, then our price to the consumer would be $3.60.
Who is the competition? We consider any retail store in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area to be our competition.
Verification of the price We must be able to verify the competitor's price and availability through a current advertisement, receipt (less than 30 days old), or phone call to the seller in order to beat the price. Product eligibility The product and packaging must be identical to what we are selling. If the competitor has a limit on the quantity of items available or that a consumer may buy at the price we are beating, we will impose the same limit. If there are any other terms or conditions on the sale, we reserve the right to match them. Distressed, seconded, or damaged goods are excluded from this guaranty.
