Bravo! Dog Training at Pet Food Express

Trainer: Sandi Thompson, CPDT-KA

Sandi Thompson is one of the most recognized and sought -after dog trainers in the bay area. Her years of training experience, coupled with a dynamic and entertaining teaching style have earned her one of the best reputations in this business. She is highly recommended by veterinarians and leaders in the field of canine behavior and training.

Sandi started her animal training career early, as a 12-year-old volunteer at the Oakland Zoo. Her responsibilities at the zoo expanded over time, as she cared for a variety of exotic animals and taught sign language to the chimpanzees. Later, Sandi began training dogs and puppies professionally. In ‘2000’ she graduated with honors from the San Francisco SPCA Dog Training Academy. She is a charter member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, and was one of the first professionals to earn Certified Pet Dog Trainer (CPDT) standing. Sandi was the lead trainer for Sirius® Puppy Training for decades, and today, with more than 25 years of experience teaching dog training and puppy classes, she has more than 25,000 trained dogs to her credit.  She has also mentored and counseled countless trainers locally and from all over the world. In recognition of these and other accomplishments, Sandi was named the APDT National Trainer of the Year in 2006.

Sandi has appeared on Animal Planet, CNN, Ripley's Believe it or Not, Amazing Animals in Japan, Fine Living Network (HGTV) and Discovery Channel. She is owner and founder of BRAVO!PUP. Sandi resides in Berkeley with a dog named Turtle. She enjoys hiking, climbing, and adventure travel. Her travels have taken her all over remote areas of southeast Asia to observe wildlife and to spend time with local and tribal peoples. She’s also visited Rwanda, Uganda and Borneo where she fulfilled her childhood dream of trekking with mountain gorillas, chimpanzees and orangutans in the wild. In 2011 Sandi volunteered with relief efforts for dogs that fell victim to the disastrous “Bangkok floods” in Thailand.  She helped care for hundreds of street dogs that had been left stranded in scores of evacuated cities declared disaster zones. One of the dogs she cared for came back home with Sandi. She calls him Siam Sam.
