Kitten SeasonEvery May, Pet Food Express hosts our annual Kitten Season campaign at all our stores!
This year, our customers donated more than $108,000 in essential kitten supplies and resources that helped California rescues and shelters add over 100 new foster families!
Why do we do it? In California’s temperate climate, kitten season lasts a long time, meaning there are many more baby kittens than shelters and rescues can handle on their own.
Kittens are adorable but when spring comes, California suddenly has thousands of new, furry bundles of joy born to domestic or feral cats that have not been spayed. Most of these kittens are separated from their mothers before they have been weaned.
Shelters become so overwhelmed by the sheer number of new kittens, often they are not able to provide care and a temporary home for many of them through their foster networks.
New foster families are essential during Kitten Season.
“It has been a fantastic experience. … We just received two 3-week-old kittens on Tuesday and so far it is going very well,” a new foster family shared with us.
Even though our Kitten Season campaign has come to a close, you can still help!
By giving a kitten (up to) eight weeks of your time, your family will give a newborn kitten the opportunity to live a full, healthy life! To learn more about becoming a kitten foster, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
