Weekend fundraiser to pay for bullet proof vests and other equipment

CARMEL, Calif. - This weekend, the Cover Your K9 fundraiser kicked off to help support K9 protection and training.

If you wash your pooch at any Pet Express store, 100 percent of the proceeds will go toward buying bullet proof vests, medical care and more.

Police dog handlers said the equipment is badly needed.

“Especially the medical equipment,” said Dely Rey Oaks Police Department K9 handler Chris Salopek. “If our dog gets hurt out in the field we have specialty equipment in these kits that will help save our dogs lives if they get injured or wounded."

The fundraiser continues Sunday. The goal is to raise $150,000.
