Sirius Dog Training

Trainer: Carlie Seelig

Carlie has always loved dogs. As a child, she often dreamed of having the ability to speak with animals. When finally able to have a dog of her own, Carlie discovered that dog training is the incredibly fun and essential way to do just that.

As a long-time student of SIRIUS puppy classes herself, Carlie understands what it’s like to try to learn while simultaneously juggling the puppy-cuteness factor, and the you-better-not-chew-my-shoes-poop-there-or-steal-my-breakfast challenges that arise daily when living with a beloved canine family member.

Initially launching her professional dog training career as an apprentice and assistant to a top Bay Area dog trainer, Carlie delights in perpetual learning and constantly strives to expand her own understanding of canine behavior and dog training skills through academic as well as hands-on educational experiences. Her degree in psychology from UCLA, as well as many years as a classroom teacher, prepared Carlie to be a skilled and entertaining SIRIUS class instructor. She is committed to providing you with the tools and knowledge you need to learn how to communicate effectively with your canine companions and build successful, life-long relationships.

Carlie also treasures training her own two dogs, Tawny and Soda Pop, and competing at AKC events and NCSWA Nose Work trials, as well as volunteering at the SF SPCA.

Class Descriptions and Pricing

Puppy Training I
Puppies must be between 12-18 weeks old at the start date of class with 2 DHLPP vaccinations, one of which must have been given after 8 weeks of age and at least 5-7 days prior to the start of class.
Our puppy class specifically focuses on teaching bite inhibition (gentle jaws), socialization with other dogs and people (especially children, men, and strangers), calming and handling, attention, off-leash and household manners/obedience and the prevention of behavior and temperament problems.  Special emphasis is paid to phasing out the need for food lures and rewards for reliable verbal and hand signals, off-leash control (around the home or on walks) yet promoting continued use of food for classical conditioning- to teach dogs to thoroughly enjoy the company of people and other dogs.
Cost: $200.00 for five weeks of instruction. Registration is through

Puppy Training II
This class is for graduates of SIRIUS PUPPY TRAINING I who are under 8 months.  Proof of rabies vaccine is required.
Early puppy training is as easy as it is enjoyable.  Much more challenging, though is to ensure that your puppy maintains bite inhibition, remains social and friendly to other dogs and people, and continues to pay heed to your instructions, while working through adolescence.   Training focuses on proofing verbal control without the need for food lures or rewards or any other training tools.  Exercises include distance sits in play (for the home, yard, dog park, and off-leash walks), settle down, rock-solid stays, and both off-leash and on-leash walking and heeling.  PUPPY TRAINING II will help you teach your adolescent puppy to be calm, attentive and responsive and to respond quickly, willingly and happily, especially when distracted, off-leash and at a distance.
Cost: $200.00 for five weeks of instructions. Registration is through

Basic Household Manners:
This class is for friendly dogs over 19 weeks.  Proof of current vaccinations required.
An excellent class for dogs that have never taken a class before or for dogs needing to brush up on rusty obedience skills. Reward training techniques make training adolescent and adult dogs a peaceful and enjoyable experience. Initial exercises focus on calming, settling-down and regaining attention to facilitate teaching basic manners - sit, down, stand, stay, walking on-leash and polite greetings.
Requirements: This class is for friendly dogs over 19 weeks.  Proof of rabies vaccinations required. Cost: $200.00 for five weeks of instructions. Registration is through
