Trainer: Heidi Hurdy

In 1989 Heidi began apprenticing under Sirius Puppy Training’s founder, Dr. Ian Dunbar and several of  Sirius’ top trainers at that time. Shortly after, she started the San Jose branch which soon was a thriving location. Until then, off-leash puppy classes were unheard of in that area.

After a couple of years, she decided to take a break from professional training to travel abroad. Upon her return, she became involved in hobbies including competition AKC obedience, conformation, and some limited breeding. Over the years she has shared her life with several Labradors, 2 German Shorthaired Pointers, and 2 Miniature Pinchers. She currently enjoys the companionship of an enthusiastic Labrador and a silly Italian Greyhound.

She was thrilled to rejoin the Sirius team in 2010. Heidi stays current on modern, science-based, dog-friendly training methods by attending seminars and workshops, reading books and watching videos which include those of Dr. Ian Dunbar, Patricia McConell, Ph.D., Karen Pryor, Suzanne Clothier, Pamela Reid Ph.D., Jean Donaldson, Denise Fenzi, Grisha Stewart and many more. She enjoys participating in group classes and competitions in obedience and rally with her dogs for fun and as a way of keeping her skills fresh.

Watching puppy owners grasp the same, simple, relationship building methods just as she originally did brings her great satisfaction, knowing that the puppies that come through her classes have a greater chance of staying in their forever homes, living long, happy lives as cherished companions.

Heidi is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) and a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers.
